Late Bloomer: Cereus hildmannianus

Year End Blooming Attempt
By Cereus Hildmannianus

Now we are at the fourth week of December 2019 and as usual, I am in 'tropical winter' where it rains a lot yet very hot. The only difference is the temperature drops by 3 to 4 °C compared to other season. The drop in temperature surely affects some orchid and cactus, and in this context would be Cereus hildmannianus.

Today I would like to share the joy of having tons on incoming blooms from Cereus, the prickle of my collection.

Early budding: 7 Days before Anthesis (Full bloom)

Two day before Anthesis

One day before Anthesis

Anthesis: Full bloom

So, what is anthesis anyway?

Anthesis is defined as the flowering period of a plant from the  opening of flower bud.

Going Through The Monsoon: Echinopsis Variegata Graft Updates

Echinopsis Variegata Graft Updates

I have grafted more than 30 Echinopsis variegata, mostly on Cereus rootstock and a bit of them on Hylocereus. Been two months already and quite happy with their performance so far.

Feel free to visit the link below to see how do I graft and their previous weeks growth.

Today, I would like to share the current growth of my Echinopsis grafts. Almost all of them had plastic wraps removed.

The growth resume pretty well on all of the scion. So far, only 2 scion failed to attach and the rootstock will be regrafted later.

A bit of updates on my future rootstocks, Selenicereus grandiflorus.

Thanks for reading guys.

Happy growing, adieu
